AP Top 25 College Football Poll: USC Moves Up, Ranked No. 1

USC moves up two spots to take the top spot in the AP Top 25 college football rankings on Monday. The Trojans routed Virginia, 52-7, on Saturday in their 2008 season opener.

Southern Cal has a bye week as they gear up for the most anticipated game of the college football season, their battle with No. 3 Ohio State on Sept. 13.

The AP poll dropped Georgia and Ohio State despite both teams winning their season openers. UGA defeated Georgia Southern, 45-21, and the Buckeyes beat Youngstown State, 43-0.

Oklahoma and Florida round out the top five as the top eight remained the same. Then-No. 9 Clemson dropped out of the rankings after getting dismantled by then-No. 24 Alabama, 34-10.

Clemson is joined by then-No. 17 Virginia Tech, then-No. 18 Tennessee, then-No. 25 Pittsburgh as the ranked teams that dropped out of the top 25. They were replaced by Fresno State, Utah, South Carolina and UCLA, who defeated Tennessee, 27-24.

Alabama moved up the most of any team in the rankings, sliding up 11 spots to No. 13 after their win against Clemson. Illinois dropped the most of any team still in the top 25, moving down four spots after losing 52-42 to No. 6 Missouri.
