ESPN/USA Today Top 25 College Football Poll: USC Defeats UVA, Ranked No. 1

USC moves up one spot to take the top spot in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 college football rankings on Monday.

The Trojans routed Virginia, 52-7, on Saturday in their 2008 season opener. Southern Cal has a bye week as they gear up for the most anticipated game of the college football season, their battle with No. 3 Ohio State on Sept. 13.

The ESPN/USA Today poll dropped Georgia and Ohio State despite both teams winning their season openers. UGA defeated Georgia Southern, 45-21, and the Buckeyes beat Youngstown State, 43-0. The Bulldogs were No. 1 in both the ESPN and AP top 25 poll in the preseason.

Oklahoma and Florida round out the top five as the top eight remained the same. Then-No. 9 Clemson dropped to the bottom of the rankings after getting dismantled by then-No. 24 Alabama, 34-10.

Then-No. 17 Virginia Tech dropped out of the top 25. Then-No. 18 Tennessee and then-No. 24 Michigan also dropped out of the rankings. They were replaced by Utah, South Carolina and Alabama.

Oregon and Fresno State moved up the most of any team, sliding up four spots each. Clemson dropped the most of any team still in the top 25, moving down 13 spots after their loss to Alabama.
