AP Top 25 College Football Schedule Thursday: #24 South Carolina Gamecocks Look for Revenge Against Vanderbilt Commodores

The #24 South Carolina Gamecocks will almost certainly have revenge on their mind when the take on Vanderbilt in Nashville Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. ET. Last year the Commodores entered Colombia to face the #6 Gamecocks and left with a shocking 17-6 victory, beginning the tailspin for South Carolina that saw them drop their final five games of the season.

Steve Spurrier has already announced Chris Smelley will be taking the snaps for the Gamecocks Thursday night and if anybody wants revenge it would be Smelley who tossed two interceptions in last year’s fateful game.

South Carolina is coming off a 34-0 blasting of North Carolina State in week one. While the Gamecocks looked offensively challenged in the first half as Tommy Beecher tossed four interceptions they managed to put it together in the second and moved seemingly at will against the overmatched Wolfpack.

Vanderbilt is also coming off a win, having routed Miami, Ohio 34-13 in their 2008 season opener. Quarterback Chris Nickson is coming off a career game in which he threw for 91 yards and a TD whle rushing for 166 yards and two more touchdowns. Nickson may find the yards harder to come by on Thursday night as South Carolina allowed just 138 total yards last week.

South Carolina will host the #2 Georgia Bulldogs next week while Vanderbilt will welcome Rice.
