The Seattle Seahawks made full use of the Chicago Bears' precarious situation and scored a 23-20 victory that also resulted in them inching up and tying with the Arizona Cardinals for the first place in the NFC West.
Matt Hasselbeck of the Seahawks performed exceptionally well by throwing a season-best 242 yards and a touchdown to earn his team a win. The Seahawks also paid equal attention to their defense and were able to sack Bears' Jay Cutler six times during the game. The triumph has helped them to ascend the rankings and they are now at 3-2, with a first-place tie with Arizona in the NFC West; Rams (3-3) are trailing with half a game.
Seattle has struggled in recent games and this prompted them to trade players with receiver Deion Branch going to New England and Marshawn Lynch of the Buffalo Bills replacing him.
The trade-off paid for the Seahawks as Lynch ran for 44 yards that included a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. He led his team to a 23-13 lead and capped a 92-yard drive; Hasselbeck sealed the deal and ensured that the Bears were left with nothing but a defeat. He completed 25 of 40 passes and Mike Williams had 10 catches and 123 yards in what was his career-high score. Justin Forsett was the other Seattle player who ran for 67 yards and scored a touchdown.
Cutler disappointed during most parts of the game by completing just 17 of 39 passes for 290 yards.
