In an attempt to rekindle the enthusiasm seen during the Presidential campaign two years ago, the First Lady accompanied President Obama on a campaign to Ohio. Both of them shared the first campaign stage in two years while the President urged his supporters to “keep believing”.
President Obama acknowledged that this was a difficult election. Over 35,000 people had gathered at the Ohio State University campus to hear him speak. He warned the crowd that if Democrats did not win the majority in the mid term election, all the good that he has been able to achieve in the past two years as the President might be undone. He was referring in particular to the health care reforms and new financial regulations.
President Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama were trying to boost the spirits of the Democrat supporters. The President’s speech contained the same energy of the speech he had given in Ohio two days prior to his Presidential elections in 2008. The crowd remembered the famous chant “We can change this country. Yes, we can." and broke out into it spontaneously. This slogan was what eventually led to his victory as the first black President of the United States of America. Two years down the lane, his party, the Democrats are facing the worrisome prospects of one or both of the Congress chambers being filled with the Republicans.
The President said that the dip in the mood of the Democrat supporters were due to the still flagging economy of America. He acknowledged that in trying times such as this it might be difficult to feel the same sense of possibility that was charging the air during the Presidential campaign, but only perseverance could change the situation for the better.
In many parts of America, the Democrat candidates are trailing behind their opposing Republican candidate, many of them by seemingly insurmountable odds.
