Clinton Rallies For Brown

Former President Bill Clinton has turned out at a rally of thousands in San Jose to get behind Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown.

Brown, who was once Clinton’s presidential rival, was praised by Clinton for his terms as governor, attorney general and Mayor of Oakland and especially pointed out the green and energy efficiency initiatives he sponsored.

"He has always been on the side of positive change. He cares enough to want to be governor again.... Any time he's ever had a job like this, he's held down costs and increased benefits,” said the former President.

Clinton also encouraged younger voters to get active in politics and spread the word through social networking site like Twitter. "There's a reason people think the Democrats are going to lose all these House seats. And the reason is you. All these polls are predicated on the assumption that tomorrow's America voted in 2008 but yesterday's America will vote in 2010,” Clinton said, referring to the huge number of young voters who came out in 2008, but are expected to stay home in the upcoming elections.

The rally was particularly focused on encouraging voter turnout, with a couple of large video screens behind Clinton displaying the message “When Democrats Vote, Democrats Win!"

Brown’s rival, Meg Whitman has said that if it wasn’t for the party affiliated, Clinton wouldn’t have spoken out for Brown, as Clinton in the past has praised Whitman’s leadership and work while she was head of eBay.
