General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) fell 5.01%
to $16.30 on strong volumes. he company said Friday that its third-quarter
profit fell 18%, but the industrial and financial-services conglomerate noted
an improving economic environment as orders rose.
The
company`s profit for the three months ended Sept. 30 dipped to $2.06 billion,
or 18 cents a share, from $2.49 billion, or 23 cents a share, in the year-ago
period.
Over the
past 52-week, the stock traded within the range of $13.75-$19.70. The average
daily volume of the stock is 56.98 million shares.
Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAT) lost 6.46% to $22.45 on about 18.08 million
shares. The company said Friday that its third-quarter net profit rose 23% to
$283.3 million, or 77 cents a share, from $229.8 million, or 63 cents a share,
a year earlier.
Analysts
polled by FactSet Research had been expecting earnings of 75 cents a share in
the latest quarter, on sales of $1.94 billion.
At today`s
closing market price, the market capitalization of the company stands at $8.08
billion.
Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE:GCI) plunged 8.80% to $12.85 on unusual
volumes. The company said that its third-quarter profit climbed 38% to $101.4 million,
or 42 cents a share, from $73.8 million, or 31 cents a share, in the comparable
quarter last year.
Analysts, on
average, expected the company to report earnings of 50 cents per share on
revenue of $1.33 billion.
The
stock fell more than 14% year-to-date and is down more than 28% in the last six
months of trading sessions.
Anadys Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ANDS) declined 15.87%
to $1.75 on about 4.19 million shares after it created its fresh one-year low
of $1.63 on hefty volumes. The company said it planned to offer almost 14
million shares at $1.80 apiece, below the stock’s closing price on Thursday of
$2.08.
So far this
year, the stock went down more than 20%.
