After two months of court testimony, the jury is finally deliberating in the trial of two physicians and an attorney accused of contributing to the drug dependence of the late Anna Nicole Smith.
Smith died in Florida in February of 2007 from an accidental overdose of prescription medication. The three defendants in this trial are not charged in Smith’s death. During the trial, prosecutors contended that Dr. Sandeep Kapoor and Dr. Khristine Eroshevichprescribed medication for Smith, along with her attorney and companion Howard K. Stern.
The trial has lated nine weeks. The prosecution alleges that Kapoor and Eroshevich, who are charged with conspiring to supply drugs to an addict – "abandoned their responsibilities. They abused their power."
Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Renee Rose believed that evidence presented in the trial illustrated "that these defendants knew what they were doing was wrong" and that "they knew their conduct was unlawful."
