Prescription drugs now out-rank illegal drugs according to the September 2010, Congressional Caucus on Prescription Drug Abuse. In fact, more Americans illegally use prescription drugs than cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens and inhalants combined. Fortunately, for one prescription drug addict, he found Narconon Suncoast, a non-profit drug rehab center located in central Florida.
Greg was heavily addicted to prescription drugs. With severe back pain it was the natural course to go onto painkillers. His drug of choice was OxyContin. Taking drugs became part of his usual routine. So easily can one fall into such a pattern. Greg explains his story:
“For the last 7 years I have been fully dependent upon drugs and unable to deal with life on my own. I had told myself and accepted the “fact” that I would use for the rest of my life and I was actually convinced I operated better with drugs. The longest I’d ever been clean was 3 weeks and those were miserable weeks. But eventually my whole life became miserable with drugs and I thought there would be no end to this. When I decided I wanted help, I was not only lucky enough to find Narconon, I found Narconon Suncoast Rehabilitation Center (SRC).”
To get help from drug addiction the hardest part can be admitting one needs help. At that point, Narconon can take it from there. One thing which is not well understood about addiction is that young or old, rich or poor, addiction can happen to anyone taking drugs, including prescription drugs, which are highly addictive substances. The trap is well set up to fall into. Lack of education regarding drugs and lack of knowledge of how to solve life’s problems are the key factors in addiction which Narconon addresses.
Narconon doesn’t have the widespread viewpoint that their clients are afflicted with some incurable disease; instead, it considers their clients as students which need to learn vital data that neither society, nor school has taught them, so they don’t know it. The Narconon program is designed not only to physically withdraw and detoxify a person from drugs, but also to increase the student’s ability to solve problems and confront situations in life that they previously could not face.
Greg goes on to explain his gains on the Narconon Suncoast program:
“I was very skeptical at first and thought, “How will this help me stay off drugs?” But, after doing the sauna part of the program, not only did I have better senses and absolutely no physical cravings, but also my physical pain in my back went to almost nothing and I got my normal sleep back. The rest of the books gave me the ability to learn and confront the problems in life I have been hiding with drugs. I gave myself all the excuses in the world why I did drugs and how it was “other people’s fault“. After Book 6 I truly found why I started using and the habits that led to it traced back to when I was 5 years old. Then, Book 7 allowed me to handle these problems so I can move on with life. I’m glad I came to SRC and actually looked at SRC as my home. I met many awesome people and will carry these memories from here with me forever.” Greg H.
