Capitol Police Arrest Man Carrying Rifle, Ammo and IED in Jeep

A man who stopped to ask police for directions near the Capitol in Washington D.C. was quickly arrested after an officer spotted a rifle case in the man’s jeep.

 

After searching the vehicle Capitol Police found a rifle, several rounds of ammunition and an improvised explosive device. The arrest was made at the intersection of 2nd and Independence Avenue Southeast.

 

Police have closed roads in the area and evacuated employees of the Library of Congress while they continue their investigation.

 

It remains unclear what the arrested man’s intentions were or if he had a specific target.
