The U.S. Putting Tour today announced The Crossings at Carlsbad will be the host site for the inaugural USPT National Championship in September 2011.
The Crossings is in Carlsbad, California, which is located in coastal north county San Diego. The course, owned by the city of Carlsbad, is Carlsbad's newest course and features views of the Pacific Ocean.
The six-day
putting championship will take place on The Crossings' large, two-tiered practice putting green. The putting tour and championship are open to all amateur golfers who are 13 years of age and older.
"The Crossings is an ideal location for our first
national putting championship," said Jim Hartley, founder of the U.S. Putting Tour. "It has a great putting green and fabulous amenities, plus it's in Carlsbad, which is a perfect tourist destinations for couples, families and golfers."
Among
San Diego golf destinations, Carlsbad is unmatched in popularity. Not only does it feature such courses as The Crossings, La Costa Resort and Aviara, but it's the home of TaylorMade, Callaway and several other smaller golf equipment manufacturers.
Golfers competing in the USPT National Championship will be able to arrange tee times at The Crossings around their playing times in the tournament, so they can maximize their time in Carlsbad. USPT participants who bring family members are in proximity to Legoland, Carlsbad Village and Carlsbad's extensive beaches and walking trails.
