Kanye West : I Thought About Committing Suicide

Kanye West told the audience at the premier of his new movie "Runaway" that he considered committing suicide, but now thinks that he has an obligation to make a positive contribution to art and pop culture.

Calling himself a "soldier for culture" and pop icon, West said that "there were times that I contemplated suicide", while adding, "I will not give up on life again".

West also said that not many people will get the opportunity to get their voices heard like him and claimed that he does it for them.

West, who didn't tell when he thought about killing himself, has self-directed a 35-minute short film featuring clips of nine of his latest songs, off-kilter camera shots and colorful visuals. This largely dialogue-free movie, which will be premiered on MTV, BET and VH1, is due to accompany his upcoming music album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" that is set to be released on 22nd November.

West's new song "Power" has touched on the subject of suicide that includes the repeated verse:

"Now this would be a beautiful death — I'm jumping out the window, I'm letting everything go". The remix of this song is amongst the 10 tracks that he recently released via his website for free, in a buzz building effort he called "G.O.O.D. Fridays".

West, a producer-turned rapper, stated that after the release of "Fantasy", he'll release another album with Jay-Z and then another with Pharrell Williams and Lupe Fiasco entitled "Child Rebel Soldiers".
