Bank of
America Corporation (NYSE:BAC) fell 4.38% to $11.80. The
company posted a third-quarter net loss of $7.3 billion, or 77 cents a share,
compared to a net loss of $1 billion, or 26 cents a share, in the same period
last year.
Excluding a goodwill impairment charge of $10.4 billion, the
banking giant said it earned $3.1 billion or 27 cents a share in the quarter.
A survey of analysts by FactSet Research had produced a consensus forecast
for earnings of 18 cents a share.
The stock opened at $12.34 and has a 52-week range of
$11.71-$19.86. The stock made its fresh 52-week low of $11.71.
Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (NYSE:GS) added
1.96% to $156.72. The company reported third-quarter net income of $1.9
billion, or $2.98 a share, down from $3.19 billion, or $5.25 a share, in the
year-ago period.
Wall
Street analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had forecast quarterly profit of
$2.32 a share, on average.
Over the
past 52-week, the stock had traded within the range of $129.50-$187.55 and is
down more than 5% year-to-date.
Wells
Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) dropped 1.29% to $24.55
on strong volumes. The company is likely to post earnings of 55 cents a share
for the third quarter, according to analysts surveyed by FactSet.
Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS)
slid 0.04% to close at $25.39 on
unusual volumes. The company is expected to report third-quarter earnings of 15
cents a share, according to a consensus survey by Thomson Reuters.
