The New York Yankees are least expected to see their dream of reaching the World Series as the Texas Rangers handed them a 10-3 rout Tuesday night.
The loss has made them trail 3-1 in the best of seven American League Championship Series and only a miracle can save them from elimination.
It all happened because of catcher Bengie Molina as he hit a two out, three-run home run off A.J. Burnett in the top of the sixth inning in Game 4 and drew his team one win closer to the World Series.
Josh Hamilton was also at hand to score two homers as the Rangers demolished the Yankees’ bullpen for five runs over the final three innings. Mark Teixeira was of no help as he is still 0 for 14 against Texas, and he is not the only one among the Yankees who have yet to show their skills against the Rangers. He suffered a hamstring and was helped off the ground in the fifth.
Burnett was 0-2, against five of his first seven hitters and finished off three strikeouts while not allowing a first-inning run during the game. Elvis Andrus of the Rangers knocked in the first run with Michael Young’s scoring second on a slow bouncer, giving their team a lead of 2-1 in the third.
Derek Jeter threatened the lead in the fourth when he tripled with two outs and scored on a single by Curtis Granderson.
Then Molina came in the fifth and scored his fourth postseason homer against the Yankees on his first pitch, ensuring that victory remained in Rangers' hands.
