Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader from Nevada has called in Vice President Joe Biden to lend weight to his campaign in the lead up to the November 2 elections.
Reid is in a neck-and-neck race with Republican tea party favorite Sharron Angle and has sought to bring out the Democratic voters with a visit from Washington.
Biden is set to be the star speaker in a rally held at the Virginia Street Gym at the University of Nevada’s Reno campus. But Biden isn’t the only heavyweight Reid will be bringing in, with President Obama set to give a speech in Las Vegas for Reid on Friday.
Biden and Obama come hot on the heels of a whirlwind tea party tour by Sarah Palin, who was in Reno on Monday and Las Vegas Tuesday, and analysts are expecting that the two political heavyweights will counter some of the huzzah Palin has aroused with her visit.
The tea party express tour has vowed to try and topple Reid, who is seen as a major threat to their favorite Angle. Fred Lokken, a political science professor has likened the star visitors to a high-stakes card game:
"The Democrats, if they are playing a card game here, just trumped Sarah Palin and the tea party. I can't imagine any other star power in the Republican Party that could matter more in the closing days than Sarah Palin. The Democrats now have brought in Bill Clinton, Wayne Newton and now these two [Biden and Obama], so they are pulling out all of the stops."
