Hurricane Ike Expected to Hit Cuba Coast Sunday Night

Hurricane Ike smashed through the Turks and Caicos, damaging more than 80 percent of the homes on the islands, and is now expected to hit Cuba Sunday evening.

The Category 4 hurricane has been hammering the Bahamas with 135mph winds and pounding rain as it makes its way through the Caribbean and looks to enter the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Relief efforts in the Turks and Caicos are underway as the British Red Cross work to provide shelter and food for scores of residents who have lost everything due to Hurricane Ike. They exact extent of the damage has not been determined but shelters across the islands have been filled to capacity.

As Hurricane Ike makes its way towards Cuba forecasters expect the storm to strengthen and residents in Havana have been stocking up on food and fuel ahead of its arrival.
