Action star Jean-Claude Van Damme has suffered a minor heart attack while filming his latest movie “Weapon” in New Orleans. The 50-year old star is recovery well, but has headed home to Belgium to recuperate fully with family.
The new film was in production in Romania prior to heading to New Orleans for a planned three-day shoot. Van Damme suffered the heart attack before filming began in Louisiana, which put a halt on the whole shoot.
The star, who just turned 50 on Monday, was admitted to hospital in New Orleans but was checked out not long after, then headed home to recover in Belgium. In a very brief statement from Van Dammes representatives, via email they confirmed that "He is okay." No other word on the star’s health, or what caused the heart attack, is known.
There is yet to be any news on how the incident will affect the production of his latest flick “Weapon” which was another action-packed movie, typical of Van Damme films.
The actor was set to play a knife-wielding assassin, forced to cooperate with his gun-mad rival assassin to drive a major drug bust. Vinnie Jones was slated to star as Van Dammes rival in the film, but has since dropped out of the project. Taking his place is the “Bourne Ultimatum” actor Scott Adkins A.K.A “The Muscles From Brussels” who has previously done films with Van Damme.
Production is expected to be halted for some time as Van Damme recovers.
