China has announced it will launch its third manned space mission, the Shenzhou VII, later this month and the mission will include the country’s first ever space walk.
China previously sent manned missions in 2003 and 2005 and their September launch is expected to last up to five days. The launch from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gansu province will take place between Sept. 25 and 30.
The space walk will be carried out by one “yuhangyuan” (astronaut) while a second will be nearby to monitor and assist in case of an emergency.
In 2003 China joined the United States and Russia as the only countries to launch manned space missions.
