Rookie Matt Forte rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown, Kyle Orton was an effective 13/21 for 150 yards passing and the Chicago Bears defense held the high-powered offense of the Indianapolis Colts to just 293 total yards in a 29-13 road victory to open the season.
Adam Vinatieri gave the Colts a brief 3-0 lead but that would be the only time they were in front as Matt Forte busted a 50-yard TD run and after Vinatieri kicked his second field goal Robbie Gould booted a pair of his own for Chicago and the defense picked up a safety to lead 15-7 at the break.
Peyton Manning pulled the Colts to within 15-13 in the third quarter after hitting Reggie Wayne on a 6-yard toss but the Bears defense came up big as Lance Briggs picked up a fumble and went 21-yards for a score near the end of the third frame to reestablish the cushion.
In the fourth Jason McKie put the game away with a one-yard TD run.
