US Stocks to Watch

Altera Corporation (NASDAQ:ALTR) is trading at $28.97 and decreased 1.69% from the previous day’s close. The company reported its third-quarter net income more than trebled to $217.5 million, or 69 cents a share, from a profit of $56.7 million, or 19 cents a share, in the same quarter last year.

Analysts had expected the chip company to report earnings of 64 cents a share, on revenue of $524.8 million, according to a consensus survey by FactSet Research.

Over the past 52-week, the stock had traded within the range of $19.23-$30.97. At current market price, the market capitalization of the company is $8.90 billion.

VMware, Inc. (NYSE:VMW) increased 0.77% to $73.68 after the company yesterday reported a third-quarter profit of $84.6 million, or 20 cents a share, compared with a profit of $38.2 million, or 9 cents a share, for the year-earlier period. Revenue was $714.2 million, up from $489.8 million. On an adjusted basis, the tech company would have earned 39 cents a share.

The stock went up more than 72% year-to-date.

Shares of Quest Diagnostics Incorporated (NYSE:DGX) dropped 2.70% to $48.73. The company said that its net income jumped to $198 million or $1.13 a share, from $192 million, or $1.02 a share, in the year-ago period. Recent results include a tax benefit of 8 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet Research were looking for earnings of $1 a share.

The stock opened at $50.94 and is trading within the range of $47.88-$51.41. The average daily volume of the stock is 1.19 million shares.

Comerica Incorporated (NYSE:CMA) went down 7.76% to $35.41. The company reported third-quarter net income of $59 million, up from $19 million in the same period a year earlier.

The company said net income attributable to common shares was $59 million, or 33 cents a share, compared to a loss of $16 million, or 10 cents a share, in the same period a year earlier.

A survey of analysts by FactSet Research had produced a consensus estimate of a profit of 40 cents a share for the Dallas-based bank.
