Roger Federer is seeking his 13th career Grand Slam singles title and his fifth straight U.S. Open title while Andy Murray is looking to capture his first Grand Slam singles title and on Monday evening one of the two will have accomplished their goal as the 2008 U.S. Open men’s finals takes place at 5:00 p.m. ET.
Federer has seemingly regrouped from a disappointing 2008 season in which he has yet to capture a Grand Slam singles title, he has won at least one every year dating back to 2003. The 27-year-old Swiss star did reach the finals at the French Open and Wimbledon but was knocked off by world number one Rafael Nadal.
Federer can thank Murray for not having to face Nadal in a third Grand Slam finals as the Scotsman won a four-set battle with the Spaniard on Sunday to advance to his first Grand Slam finals. The 21-year-old Murray did win the 2008 Cincinnati Masters earlier this year when he beat Novak Djokovic in the finals.
