New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will miss the remainder of the 2008 NFL season after suffering an injury to his left knee in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs that will now require surgery.
Brady’s anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) was torn after Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard hit the 2007 AP NFL MVP midway through the first quarter. Brady had missed the entire preseason with an unrelated foot injury.
Matt Cassel filled in for the remainder of the game and led the Patriots to a 17-10 victory. While New England will likely stick with Cassel there have been reports that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Chris Simms and current free agent Tim Rattay could be possible replacements.
