The Chicago Blackhawks managed to earn a 2-1 victory against the Vancouver Canucks in a shootout after tying the game in regulation.
It all happened because of star goalie Roberto Luongo as he failed to keep up with this strong defense in the shootout and ended up 0-for-3. He failed to save goals by BlackHawks' Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane as they managed to tilt the game in their favor with a final tally of 2-1.
Luongo had a save percentage of .797 save before the game but now has five straight shootout goals to his credit.
His game in regulation, however, was flawless as only Viktor Stalberg of the Blackhawks was able to beat him by hitting a shot to the corner from the hash marks in the last moments of the first period. He, otherwise, managed to save all shots by turning aside 12 shots in the second period and six in the third; two more shots in overtime were also nicely saved by the goalie.
The Hawks were still leading when Canucks' Daniel Sedin slammed the puck between the skates of Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook right at the one-minute mark of the third thus tying the game 1-1. Marty Turco made 36 saves for the Hawks in what was his fourth consecutive win of the current season.
Vancouver is 2-3-2 on the young season after losing four games, while the Blackhawks have won four straight games and a mark of 5-2-1 that has earned them the top spot at the NHL's Western Conference.
