Earthquakes Win on Wondolowski's Record Hat trick

Chris Wondolowski helped the San Jose Earthquakes devastate the Chivas USA with a 3-0 victory Wednesday night as he scored a record-setting hat trick.

He helped his team glide to a smooth victory in the Major League Soccer all the while setting a season scoring record by hitting his 17th goal. In doing so, he has surpassed Ronald Cerritos' club record of 15 goals, which was scored during the 1999 Fan Appreciation Night at Buck Shaw Stadium.

He has tied with Edson Buddle for the league's Golden Boot award after his stellar performance last night. He also tied another MLS record last night for the most consecutive team goals scored by one player; nine in this case.

Earthquakes had their first victory over Chivas last night ever since their entry into the MLS as an expansion team in 2008. They were 0-4-2 against the Chivas before sweeping last night's game.

The interesting fact of the game was that Wondolowski entered the game at the 40th minute as reserve striker Cornell Glen sustained a hamstring muscle strain after performing exceeding well in the first half. His injury is serious enough to give rise to fears that this was his last game of the season.

There was a time in the start when the fans were a little disappointed as he failed to capitalize on an Eduardo service on the right side. The rest, as they say, is history as Wondolowski went on to thrash the Chivas mercilessly and gave his team a spectacular victory.
