The Parents Television Council has come out against the latest GQ Magazine cover, which depicts stars from the hit TV show ‘Glee’ in less than the standard issue school uniform.
The cover features ‘Glee’ actors Cory Montieth, 28, smugly putting one hand each on the buttocks of actresses Lea Michelle, 24 and Dianna Argon, also 24. All of the actors play highschoolers in the hit TV show, which is aimed at a teenage audience.
In a statement released by the PTC, they say “It is disturbing that GQ, which is explicitly written for adult men, is sexualizing the actresses who play high school-aged characters on Glee in this way. It borders on pedophilia."
GQ editor in chief Jim Nelson has issued a response statement saying: “The Parents Television Council must not be watching much TV these days and should learn to divide reality from fantasy. As often happens in Hollywood, these ‘kids’ are in their 20s. Cory Montieth's almost 30! I think they're old enough to do what they want.”
The PTC concluded that the GQ cover is an indication of the direction in which producers are wanting to take the TV show, and that the “near-pornographic display” by the actors “isn't good for families."
The PTC has had a busy couple of weeks, with the latest uproar about ‘Glee’ hot on the heels of a protest over singer Miley Cyrus’s new single “Who Owns My Heart?”
The ‘Glee’ stars themselves showed surprise at the shoot, with Michelle saying "I don't know how they got me to do half the stuff I did" and Argon agreeing "I've never been shot in so little clothing."
