Young Willow Smith Signed To Jay-Z Label – Hard Work, Or Daddy’s Help?

Willow Smith has released her first LP, “Whip My Hair” at the tender age of 9, but the pint-sized songstress has enough sass for someone twice her age.

The Smith clan are no doubt a talented lot, but some a questioning whether Willow is a bit too young for the limelight.

Willow has been seen out and about with mum Jada at Paris’ Fashion Week, certainly has fashion taste well above most 9-year olds, but are we seeing too much too fast?

Willow was signed with hip-hop mogul Jay-Z’s record company Roc Nation only two days after her first single was leaked online, which has prompted many to ask is this Daddy’s doing, or is the young talent really worth it.

Willow herself attributes the signing to her “hard work” paying off saying in a recent interview: "Like all the hard work that I've done, like recording 'Whip My Hair' — it's paid off." Jay-Z has also spoken out about meeting the littlest Smith in Japan:

"She walked in and the first thing she said was, 'I'm really nervous,' and I thought, 'That's maturity to explain exactly how she was feeling when she walked right into the room.' I knew right then she was a star.”

While others try for as many years as Willow has been alive to get signed with a label like Roc Nation, it is hard for the more cynical amongst us to not think that the Smith connection has had a tiny-weenie bit to do with her sudden success,  but at least the kid can sing.
