About 45 people are searching for 3 hikers who went missing Monday while hiking on California’s Mt. Whitney. The men, who have been identified as 34-year-old Philip Abraham, 45-year-old Dale Clymens and 43-year-old Steven Filips, were part of a group of 10 hikers who set out on the trip up Mt. Whitney around 4 a.m. Monday. The group had divided themselves into smaller group. Abraham, Clymens and Filips were in one group.
Dave Paladino, the leader of one of the groups, said he reached the summit around 3:30 p.m. His group rested a few minutes at a shelter and began the climb back down. Heavy snow made the descent difficult. Paladino exchanged texts with the missing men around 5 a.m. Tuesday. The men said they were having trouble finding the trail in the snow, so they planned to head back to the summit shelter. Paladino says he is “100-percent” confident the men are at the shelter.
