Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) added 3.97%
to $164.97 on about 13.59 million shares. Third-quarter profit of Amazon rose
16% to $231 million, or 51 cents a share, compared with $199 million, or 45
cents a share, for the same period last year. Revenue rose 39% to $7.56
billion.
Analysts
were expecting earnings of 48 cents a share on revenue of $7.37 billion, according
to consensus forecasts from FactSet Research.
Over the
past 52-week, the stock had traded within the range of $91.70-$166.13 and is up
more than 20% year-to-date.
American
Express Company (NYSE:AXP) jumped 1.36% to $40.27. Late Thursday, the
company said that third-quarter net income came in at $1.1 billion, or 90 cents
a share, versus $640 million, or 53 cents a share, in the same period a year
ago.
The company was expected to make 85 cents a share, according to the
average estimate of 17 analysts in a FactSet Research survey.
The stock opened at $39.76 and has a 52-week range of $34.26-$49.19.
In the past one month of trading sessions, the stock went down more than 5%.
SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) dropped
3.11% to $37.12. Profit at SanDisk rose to $322.1 million, or $1.34 a share,
compared with $231.3 million, or 99 cents a share, in the year-ago period.
The
company posted third-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.30 a share, above the
$1.05 a share that Wall Street had expected. Revenue was $1.23 billion, up from
$935.2 million. Analysts were looking for revenue of $1.23 billion.
Over the
past one month of trading sessions, the stock went up more than 4%.
