Star of British hit TV show “The Office” is about the step into a different world as he suits up to play the role of Bilbo Baggins in the much-anticipated prequel to “The Lord Of The Rings.”
Martin Freeman, who also starred in “Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy” and “Hot Fuzz” will be donning the hairy feet and overalls of a Hobbit to play the lead in a two-part prequel, to the stunningly successful “The Lord Of The Rings.”
The film’s director, Sir Peter Jackson has said of Freeman: "Despite the various rumors and speculation surrounding this role, there has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us.” He said that Freeman, 39, is "intelligent, funny, surprising and brave — exactly like Bilbo. There are a few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin," Jackson told BBC News.
While a host of lesser-known actors have been signed on to the film, there is still speculation as to whether Gandalf actor Sir Ian McKellen would reprise his role, or if Andy Serkis would once again play everyone’s favorite slimy villain, Gollum. The role of Elrond the Sage has yet to be announced, as well as the voice of the dragon.
While the actors are all more-or-less in place, there is still uncertainty over the location of the film, after trouble with the actor’s Union in New Zealand has seen Warner Brothers, who are making the film, consider other locations.
