Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT) slid
0.81% to $78.25. The company said its third-quarter profit increased by 96% to
$792 million, or $1.22 a share, from $404 million, or 64 cents a share, in the
year-ago period.
Wall
Street analysts expected earnings of $1.09 a share and revenue of $10.5
billion, according to a survey by FactSet Research.
Over
the past 52-week, the stock had traded within the range of $50.50-$81.20 and is
up more than 34% year-to-date. The stock made its fresh 52-week high of $81.20.
PPG Industries, Inc. (NYSE:PPG) went
up 0.04% to $76.70. The company said Thursday its third-quarter net income rose
by to $262 million, or $1.58 a share, from $159 million, or 96 cents a share,
in the year-ago period.
PPG
was expected to earn $1.45 a share on revenue of $3.41 billion, according to a
survey by FactSet Research.
The
stock opened at $77.38 and has a 52-week range of $55.89-$77.95. The stock made
its new one-year high of $77.95.
Nucor
Corporation (NYSE:NUE) rose 0.21% to $37.97. The company said
Thursday its third-quarter profit rose to $23.5 million, or 7 cents a share,
from a loss of $29.5 million, or 10 cents a share, in the year-ago period.
Nucor was expected to earn 13 cents a share on revenue of
$3.92 billion, according to a survey of analysts by FactSet Research.
The stock went down more than 19% year-to-date.
