Aaron Rodgers was 18/22 for 178 yards and a touchdown and added 35 yards on the ground including one-yard TD sneak for a TD while Ryan Grant totaled 92 yards on the ground, 57 of those yards coming on 1st and 10 in the fourth quarter that set up the deciding score as the Green Bay Packers opened the season with a big 24-19 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
Rodgers found his rhythm with short passes in the first quarter but used a 56-yard toss to Greg Jennings in the second quarter to set up a one-yard TD toss to Korey Hall to give the Packers a 10-3 advantage at halftime.
The Vikings cut their deficit to 10-6 on Ryan Longwell’s second field goal of the game but after Minnesota’s next drive stalled and Chris Kluwe punted away Will Blackmon turned the tide of the game with a 76-yard return for a TD and a 17-6 advantage.
Minnesota came back in the fourth quarter and Tarvaris Jackson hooked up with Sidney Rice on a 23-yard TD pass but after their two-point attempt failed the Packers still held a 17-12 lead.
After both defenses held, the Packers had possession with just over eight minutes left in the game and were looking to take time off the clock when Ryan Grant found a hole and busted down the line for 57-yards to the Minnesota two-yard line. Two plays later Rodgers snuck in on the left side for the scores and then celebrated with a Lambeau Leap as the Packers went up 24-12.
Adrian Peterson, who finished with 103 yards on the ground, scored his only TD of the game on the Vikings next possession but Green Bay buckled down defensively and secured the win in the closing minutes on an Atari Bigby interception.
