Monday Night Football NFL Scores: Jay Cutler Carves Up Oakland Raiders as Denver Broncos Cruise

Jay Cutler threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns while Eddie Royal opened his NFL career with 146 yards receiving and a TD and the Denver Broncos racked up 441 yards of total offense against a dismal Oakland Raiders defense in their 41-14 regular season opener.

The Broncos took their opening drive of the game 76-yards for their first score as Cutler hit Royal on a 26-yard toss for a 7-0 lead. Denver would tack on a field goal and a 3-yard touchdown run from Michael Pittman to head into halftime with a 17-0 lead.

Oakland’s offense was largely ineffective throughout the first half as JaMarcus Russell had little time to look down field and the Broncos defense held the running game of Darren McFadden and Justin Fargas in check.

It didn’t get much better for the Raiders in the second half as Cutler once again used the deep ball to put the Broncos in the endzone as he hooked up with Darrell Jackson on a 46-yard pass for a 24-0 lead and Oakland looked done.

Russell finally got the Raiders in the endzone in the fourth quarter when he hit Ashley Lelie on an 8-yard pass but the Broncos responded with a touchdown runs from Selvin Young and a second TD from Pittman.  

Russell finished 17/26 for 180 yards and two TDs while Darren McFadden started his NFL career with nine carries and 46 yards.
