A body believed to be that of former UFC middleweight champ Evan Tanner has been found. Tanner was found dead Monday in the Palo Verde Mountain area in California.
The 37-year-old had gone missing over the weekend after blogging about taking a trip to “cleanse.” “I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life,” he wrote in his blog for Spike TV.
According to a member of Tanner’s management, police believe the fighting champ’s motorcycle ran out of gas so he began walking in the 115 to 118 degree heat. “What we were told is that (Sheriff’s official who found Tanner) believe his motorcycle had run out of gas, so he went to walk out in life 115 to 118 degree heat. He was miles away from his camp. That’s where the helicopter found him. Right now, the just think that he succumbed to the heat,” the management official told Yahoo! Sports.
Tanner began fighting in April 1997. He fought his biggest fight in 2001 against Tito Ortiz. Tanner was knocked out in 32 seconds. He fought last in March 2008.
