With the seventh anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks taking place on Thursday the History Channel has lined their schedule with a series of programs dedicated to not only to the day the Twin Towers fell and the Pentagon was hit but to events that led up to the deadliest attack on American soil in history.
Beginning at 8:00 a.m. the network will air The World Trade Center: Rise and Fall of an American Icon which details the history of the Twin Towers from its construction to its destruction when two planes slammed into the buildings, eventually causing them to crumble.
Programming will continue throughout the day with shows entitled Countdown to Ground Zero (10:00 a.m.), The Day the Towers Fell (12:00 p.m.), The Day the Towers Fell (6:00 p.m.), The Man Who Predicted 9/11 (8:00 p.m.), and 102 Minutes that Changed America / Witness to 9/11 (9:00 p.m.).
The 9/11 attacks in 2001 claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people, more than 2,600 were at the World Trade Center site in Manhattan. Over 100 were killed at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and another 40 were killed in the United 93 flight that went down in Shanksville, PA.
