Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is catching heat for an expression he used while speaking to supporters at a Lebanon, VA rally on Tuesday.
Obama was speaking about his Republican rival John McCain’s pledge for change when he stated, “John McCain says he’s about change, too, and so I guess his whole angle is, ‘Watch out George Bush.’ Except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics … That’s not change. That’s just calling something the same thing, something different.”
Those comments set the stage for the controversial line, “But you know … you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. You know, you can … wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change, it’s still going to stink after eight years.”
According to the McCain camp the “lipstick on a pig” expression was a direct shot at Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin. During the Republican National Convention Palin, a self professed hockey mom, told the crowd the only difference between a pit bull and a hockey mom was lipstick.
Now McCain’s camp is demanding Obama apologize for his comments, saying he had compared the Alaska governor to a pig, something the Obama camp has denied.
