Saints' Marques Colston Out for 4-6 Weeks Due to Thumb Injury

Marques Colston, the star wide receiver from the New Orleans Saints, will miss 4-6 weeks due to a thumb injury, according to reports on Wednesday.

Colston underwent surgery to repair the torn ligaments in his left thumb on Tuesday, forcing him to miss the next 4-6 weeks. It is rumored that Colston injured his thumb in a play on Sunday in which he reached forward to make a catch while taking a helmet-first hit to his hands.

Colston remained in the game as the Saints defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-20, but wound up finishing the game with only three catches for 26 yards.

According to the depth chart, Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem will take over the helm in Colston's absence.

Colston has gained more than 1,000 yards in each of his two NFL seasons. Colston had 98 catches for 1,202 yards last season. He has the most receptions in his first two seasons (168) of any player in history in the NFL.

Colston, the 2006 seventh-round pick from Hofstra, has also compiled 2,241 yards receiving for 19 touchdowns in his first two seasons. During the summer, Colston agreed to a three-year extension that could keep him in New Orleans through the 2011 season.
