Russia got a goal from late substitute Pavel Pogrebnyak in the 81st minute to lift Russia past Wales 2-1 in their World Cup qualifying opener on Wednesday.
Roman Pavlyuchenko gave Russia a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute on a penalty kick but Wales equalized in the 67th minute when Joe Ledley scored on a cross from Gareth Bale.
In the 73rd minute of the match Pogrebnyak came onto the pitch to replace Sergei Semak and eight minutes later he fired a shot past Wayne Hennessey for the decider.
