New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady tore both the ACL and MCL in his left knee, according to the Boston Globe on Wednesday.
Brady is expected to take four to six weeks to recover from the MCL tear and then undergo surgery to reconstruct his ACL. Barring any complications, he will need six to nine months of recovery and rehabilitation.
Under the current schedule, Brady will be available for the 2009 training camp, which will begin in mid-to-late July.
Despite his MCL and ACL tears, medical tests showed no damage to other knee ligaments and no torn cartilage in the knee.
Matt Cassel and rookie third-round draft pick Kevin O'Connell are the Patriots' two starting quarterbacks after Brady's injury. New England signed quarterback Matt Gutierrez to its practice squad on Wednesday.
