Chris "Beanie" Wells, the star running back for the Ohio State Buckeyes, is listed as doubtful for the highly-anticipated game against the USC Trojans on Saturday.
Wells suffered an injury in his right toe in the OSU season opener against Youngstown State, forcing him to miss the rest of the game and the following game against Ohio.
Earlier this week, Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel said that Wells was 75% and was going to play against Southern Cal. However, on Thursday, Tressel said that Wells' status was doubtful.
Wells did not practice on Thursday just before the team traveled to Los Angeles. Tressel said there was lingering soreness for Wells in his right foot after he worked out Wednesday night. The coach did not rule out Wells playing, but he listed his status according to how he felt on Thursday.
In Wells' absence against Ohio, redshirt freshman Dan Herron, sophomore Brandon Saine and senior Maurice Wells handled the load at tailback. If Wells misses the USC game, this trio will do the same.
Wells, a junior, rushed for 1,609 yards and 15 touchdowns last season and was considered a top Heisman Trophy prospect this season. He averaged 124 yards on 21 carries last season.
