AP Top 25 College Football Schedule: #1 USC Trojans Battle #5 Ohio State Buckeyes

The #1 USC Trojans will battle the #5 Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday in the most-anticipated college football game of the season. The game will be broadcasted at 8pm EST on ABC.

In 2001, Ohio State hired Jim Tressel, then the head coach for D-1AA Youngstown State, while USC signed Pete Carroll, whose last coaching position was the head coach for the NFL's New England Patriots in 1999.

Since then, the two storied programs have shared three of the last six BCS national championships, while Ohio State has played in the last two BCS title games. USC has produced three Heisman Trophy winners to Ohio State's one.

This year, Ohio State and USC boast the nation's top two linebackers in James Laurinaitis  and Rey Maualuga and two of the nation's top defensive backs in Malcolm Jenkins and Taylor Mays.

The Buckeyes have one Heisman Trophy candidate in running back Chris "Beanie" Wells, but he is listed doubtful for the epic battle. His status has become the biggest questionmark of the game. If Wells does not play, Dan Herron, Maurice Wells and Brandon Saine will play by committee.

The Trojans' backfield plays by a similar approach with up to six running backs, led by Stafon Johnson, C.J. Gable and Joe McKnight, all of whom scored a touchdown in Southern Cal's 52-7 win against UVA two weeks ago.
