Oprah Winfrey interviewed Pamela Smart on her show Fri. Oct 22. Pamela Smart was accused of murdering her husband Greg in 1990. The couple had only been married for under a year and resided in Derry New Hampshire when she returned home one evening and found her husband brutally murdered and their home ransacked. The initial thought of the police was the incident was a bungled robbery. A few weeks into the investigation the police turned their attention to William Flynn, 15 who was Pamela’s lover; she was 22 at the time. Flynn was arrested along with three of his friends. The prosecutors charged Pamela with conspiracy to commit murder after the boys claimed murdering Greg was her idea. Even though Pamela contends she was innocent there is evidence to the contrary. Pamela deeply regrets starting her affair with William Flynn who will be free in 2015.
Pamela’s affair with the Flynn started after her husband Greg admitted to being unfaithful to her. Her husband’s infidelity pushed Pamela to seek comfort by entering into an affair with Flynn. It is estimated that 30 to 60% percent of married individuals will be unfaithful to their spouses. This breach of trust can destroy a marriage and cause the parties involved to resort to extreme actions and violence in the interest of revenge. Instead they should just leave the marriage if the cheater cannot be forgiven.
