On Saturday, the San Francisco Giants advanced to the 2010 World Series by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. In doing so, the Giants reached the World Series for the first time since 2002. Giants outfielder Cody Ross was named the MVP of the series.
The suspense was building late in the game, with the two teams tied 2-2 in the eight inning. Then came the tie-breaking homer from Juan Uribe, which ultimately won the series for the Giants.
“We had such a diversity of contributions from everybody,” said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. “Not bad for a bunch of castoffs and misfits.”
“They play 100 percent for each other and that’s really the mark of this team,” said Giants president Larry Baer.
“I’m speechless, just breathless,” Giants general manager Brian Sabean said. “It’s a great opportunity to see what we can do on a bigger stage.”
The Giants will host the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, in Game 1 of the World Series. The Rangers defeated the New York Yankees 4-2 to make it to the World Series.
