UGA, Auburn earn SEC P.O.W awards
Georgia outside linebacker Justin Houston was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. This comes after his exceptional play Saturday in Lexington.
The junior became a living nightmare for Kentucky's QB Mike Hartline as he racked up 2.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, a pass breakup, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.
Houston is also the SEC leader in sacks with 9 in 8 games.
He has become a major force in this newly renovated defense under Todd Grantham.
Heisman hopeful Cam Newton took the award on the other side of the ball after leading his Tigers to a 24-17 win over LSU.
Newton had an impressive showing against the top SEC defense this weekend, rushing for 217 yards and two touchdowns. This is the fourth week this season Newton has earned this title. With the win, Auburn (8-0 overall, 5-0 SEC) remains undefeated and finds itself atop of the BCS standings this week.
