Owens-Illinois, Inc. (NYSE:OI) plunged
7.12% to $27.51 on about 3.53 million shares after reports Venezuela might
nationalize the glass company's local assets. The country's president, Hugo
Chavez, accused the Ohio company of exploiting domestic workers and damaging
the environment and called for its expropriation.
The
stock went down more than 17% year-to-date.
Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) slumped
23.33% to $23.92 on unusual volumes as Wall Street reacted to the
business-information-technology company's weaker-than-expected quarterly
results. Unisys reported a third-quarter profit of $28.3 million, or 65 cents a
share.
Analysts
had expected the company to report earnings of 86 cents a share, according to
data from FactSet Research.
The
stock opened at $26.62 and is trading within the range of $23.85-$31.70.
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (NYSE:RCL) soared
13.23% to $39.80. The company said Tuesday its third-quarter net income rose by
55% to $356.8 million, or $1.64 a share, from $230.4 million, or $1.07, in the
year-ago period.
Wall
Street analysts expected earnings of $1.57 a share and revenue of $2.03
billion, according to a survey by FactSet Research.
The
company expects fourth-quarter earnings of 8 cents a share to 12 cents a share,
after one-time costs of 5 cents a share for two incidents. Analysts expected
earnings of 15 cents a share for the quarter.
Over
the past 52-week, the stock traded within the range of $18.95-$39.90. The stock
went up more than 56% year-to-date.
