Rare Black Rhino and Black-Maned Lion in Sale of 900 Taxidermy Mounts

Fort Worth World Class Big Game Trophy & Western Auction

Over 900 exotic and unusual taxidermy mounts, including a rare Black Rhino and black maned Lion are being liquidated at the celebrated World Class Big Game Trophy & Western Auction in Fort Worth, Texas. One of the largest sales of its kind in the country, it will have 1350 lots for sale to the general public. The hunting trophies, animal rugs, fish and bird mounts being offered are from a museum and six private collections of big game hunters.

“We have a lot of high quality mounts—quality we have never seen before,” said John Brommel, owner of the Corner Shoppe in Austin and sale organizer. Those include record book Boone and Crockett Whitetail Deer, some of the largest ever seen, a full body Leopard and four species of wild Sheep. Among other unusual items are Hippo and African Lion skulls, a huge Polar Bear and a Russian Grizzly.

Of the hundreds of species of African and North American wildlife offered, there are a number of full body taxidermy mounts including African and American Porcupine, Arctic Fox, Bat Eared Fox, Blue Duiker, Bongo, Canadian Lynx, Chinese Water Deer, Hyena, Sitatunga, Muntjack, Whitetail, and Mule Deer and Wolf. Shoulder and half body mounts include Addax, Bighorn Stone Sheep, Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Desert Bighorn, Dall Sheep, Hippo, Wart Hog, Zebra, Longhorn, Impala, Moose, Mouflon Sheep, Giraffe, Elk, Himalayan Tahr and Puku. Fish mounts include Bass, Catfish, Trout, Muskie, Marlin, Sailfish, Tarpon, Tuna and Striper. Birds represented are a Turkey, Peacock, Pheasant and many others. “It’s the wildest auction in town,” said Brommel.

Varied decorative items for collectors and decorators include Cow horn and hide furniture, African carvings, masks and spears, wildlife and western bronze statuary, cowboy and Indian collectibles such as an antique 1800’s stagecoach strongbox, spurs, arrowheads, Indian jewelry, knives, saddles, antler chandeliers and lamps, coins, frames of Butterflies, Hippo teeth, and Elephant hair bracelets. There will be Axis Deer, Black Bear, Bobcat, Cougar, Cow, Giraffe, Hartebeest, Hyena, Leopard, Polar Bear and Zebra rugs and hides. An unusual collection of skulls and horns from African Lion, Black and Brown Bear, Cape Buffalo, Hippo, Ibex, Kudu, Whitetail and Mule Deer including a skull and horns with a double drop tang valued at close to $5000, will also be in the sale.

There will be a good selection of big game and other firearms such as a Browning BAR 7mm Remington Magnum, a 1954 German Flare gun, a Ruger M77 Mark II, 30-06 with Springfield Weatherby scope, and a Savage 24 series S .22, 410 ga. Long Rifle for avid hunters.

The auction is Friday, October 29th starting at 11am and Saturday, October 30th at 10am, at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, 1 Amon Carter Square, Exhibits Building 1 in Fort Worth, Texas 76107.
