AP Top 25 College Football Scores: Maryland Terrapins Withstand Late Charge, Upset #23 California Golden Bears

Chris Turner was 15/19 passing for 156 yards and two touchdowns, Da'Rel Scott collected 87 yards rushing and a pair of TDs and the Maryland (2-1) defense shut down the running game of #23 California (2-1), holding the Golden Bears to just 38 yards on the ground as the Terrapins scored a 35-27 upset on Saturday.

Scott gave Maryland a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter with touchdown runs of 24-yards and 1-yard and after David Seawright put the Bears on the board with a 29-yard field goal Turner answered with a one-yard toss to Dan Gronkowski to push the advantage to 21-3.

Turner kept the Terrapins rolling in the third quarter when he found Darrius Heyward-Bey on a 27-yard TD pass and Maryland built a 28-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Kevin Riley finally came alive for California in the fourth quarter, throwing three touchdown passes but Davin Meggett’s one-yard TD run for the Terrapins in the same quarter secured the upset.

Maryland will take on Eastern Michigan next week while California will look to bounce back against Colorado State in two weeks.
