The crash of a Russian jet traveling from Moscow to Perm early Sunday morning that resulted in the death of all 88 people on board has been blamed on engine failure.

According to investigators the Boeing 737-500 experienced a technical failure and a fire in the right engine that caused it to slam into the ground as it was approaching its landing in Perm. After hitting the ground the jet burst into flames, killing the 82 passengers and six crew members.

Among the dead were 21 foreign citizens from Azerbaijan, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia,  Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and the United States.
