NFL Scores Week 2: Washington Redskins Use Fourth Quarter Comeback to Drop Carolina Panthers
Jason Campbell threw for 321 yards and a touchdown, Clinton Portis rushed for 96 yards and a pair of TDs and Santana Moss collected 164 yards receiving and a TD as the Washington Redskins (1-1) overcame a 9-point fourth quarter deficit to beat the New Orleans Saints (1-1) 29-24 on Sunday.
Trailing 17-9 in the third quarter Portis brought the Redskins back to within 17-15 on a 9-yard touchdown run but Reggie Bush pushed the Saints lead to 24-15 when he returned a punt 55-yards for a TD with two seconds left in the frame.
Portis then cut into that New Orleans lead midway through the fourth when he scored from 8-yards out to make the score 24-22 and after Washington forced the Saints to a three and out Campbell hooked up with Moss on a 67-yard strike to put the Redskins in front 29-24.
New Orleans still had plenty of time to put together a drive but Drew Brees was picked off for the second time on the day and after converting a 4th and 2 with just under two minutes left in the game the Redskins ran out the clock.
Washington will host Arizona next week while New Orleans travels to Denver.
