Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has reportedly raised $66 million during August, setting a record for presidential candidates.

August was also a strong month for Republican presidential nominee John McCain who raised $47 million, the highest total recorded for his campaign. A significant portion of that was attributed to the announcement of Alaskan governor Sarah Palin as McCain’s vice-presidential candidate.
