Lakers come out on top in Home Opener against Yao and the Rockets
It wasn't easy but the Lakers showed fans how come they are the Champs
The Los Angeles Lakers started their season at home in front of their fans accepting the Championship Rings and unfolding the latest banner at the Staple Center. Then he game began.
The Houston Rockets came to play with their big man back in the line-up Yao Ming. Everyone in the arena and around the NBA knew that Yao would be limited to 24 minutes, not real sure why the Rockets made that public...The Lakers added some key players in the off season to better their chances at a three peat with the addition of Steve Blake and Matt Barnes.
Kobe was in the starting line up after off season knee surgery and while on the floor the Lakers were -8. Kobe scored 27 points had 7 assists and 5 boards, not too shabby. Pal Gasol was outstanding with 29 and 11 4 of those boards on the offensive end. The real story was Steve Blake. Blake who was playing last season in Portland behind Brandon Roy bought some of that ice down from Portland in his veins and threw up the game winner from 27 feet out off of an assist from Kobe Bryant.
With that play at the end of the game and Kobe passing up the shot with 18 seconds to go to assist new man Steve Blake showed Blake how come the Lakers could three peat unselfish basketball.
Yao did log 23 minutes before fouling out.
The Lakers won over the Rockets with a final score of 112 -110
